Luis Neves Silva from the World Wildlife Fund International (WWF) presented an on the ground perspective of forests are an integral part of people’s lives. There is a thread that connects people of all backgrounds, social position, and location to the forest. This thread is fragile and under threat of breaking under the status quo. The New Generation Plantations (NGP) connects people face-to-face to address these issues and find ways to strengthen the forest-human thread through greater forest productivity, improved living standards, restoration of degraded lands, and tackling some of the hardest problems in plantation forestry. The Open Forestry framework is important in achieving the scale of connection and information exchange our world needs.
